Foundation programs for international students are nationally recognized programs that equip students with the skills and capabilities to seek entry into higher education in Australia. They provide an academic entry pathway into first- or second-year undergraduate studies.
We advise international students to always do the foundation program before university studies as it will improve the settlement experience in Australia, as university studies has a very independent and hands off approach, foundation studies will provide students with a more personal program to move them into 2nd year university.
Courses are trimester based which means students will qualify for 2nd year university within 8 months of full-time studies. Generally, courses are cheaper than 1st year university, making these programs very attractive.
English Language Proficiency Requirements
Students need to demonstrate they have a vocational or competent level of English before a place can be offered. If an international student does not have any current IELTS score or any recognized English language result they may be required to complete a placement test or a program in academic English before commencement of studies.
Academic Entry Requirements
Students need to meet the academic entry requirements applicable to your chosen course.
Genuine Temporary Entrant
Applicants for Student visas must show they are coming to Australia temporarily to study. The Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement is not intended to exclude students who, after studying in Australia, develop skills Australia needs and who then go on to apply for permanent residence.
Special Requirements
Some courses have special requirements linked to professional accreditation or to demonstrate proficiency, aptitude or talent in the creative and performing arts.
Programs may range between 2 to 4 trimesters (6 to 14 months) dependent on current level of studies. Year 11 equivalent students will need to complete 14 months and Year 12 equivalent 2 to 3 trimesters (6 to 9 months)
